Junior Camp Week
Well, camp week is nearly at an end and what a fantastic time we've all had. Drama, Music, Dance and Art have kept all the children really busy. Its awesome to see them take a risk and try something a bit different. There's also been loads of bucket filling this week with everyone being really helpful and caring.

Daily 5 - Reading to others
As part of our morning routine in room 1 we have the Daily 5. These are activities that children must complete each day. They choose when they do them and they have till lunchtime to complete them. They include: Reading to self (2 book minimum), Reading to someone else, Listening to reading, word work (independent writing activity) and spelling. When the children aren't working on their Daily 5 they're usually doing some Action Stations or followup work that I've set them. Here are some pictures of Sophie sharing some reading with Katie and Ahleya. The children really enjoy sharing The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas, if you haven't heard it, pop in and I'm sure they'll be several children keen to read it to you.
Ahleya really enjoyed that Sophie…..Good job!
Handwriting Heroes for Term 4
Well done to Akira, Luke and Aoife! Our first handwriting heroes for term 4. They are all working really hard on the formation of their letters and are extremely enthusiastic…..AWESOME JOB!
Position
In maths this term we've been learning about position, using the language of position to describe where an object or person is (in front, in-between, behind, beside etc) and giving directions to a partner, using that language to create a copy of a formation of blocks that were hidden from them. The children have really enjoyed this unit and you can see how well they did giving and following directions.

Wearable Arts
Just a selection of some of the amazing wearable arts from the children in Room 1. All those involved did a fantastic job and if you want to see them all there is a link on our school blog, just use the button in the menu on the right to get you there.
Playdough Numbers
Akira and Aoife enjoy using the play dough to create numbers, another fun and easy activity to do at home. Here's the recipe for anyone wanting to make their own.
To add interest you can add glitter for a textural change, some aromatherapy scented oil for smell.
With some shaped cutters, rolling pin and some imagination your set for hours of fun.
Ingredients
2 cups flour
1/2 cup salt
2 tablespoons cooking oil
2 tablespoons cream of tartar
2 cups boiling water
1 teaspoon food colouring
Mix all dry ingredients, add oil and boiling water with food colouring, mix well.
Store in an airtight container.
Maths time
Here Dustin, Kate and Phoenix are playing the card game FISH but instead of making 'matching' pairs their pairs need to add up to 10. In this game the Ace has a value of one and we don't use the ten, jack, queen or king. A great game for the whole family and all you need is a pack of cards!
Welcome Back...
Nice to see everyone back at school. Special welcome to Aoife and Luke and their families. Please introduce yourselves to them and their parents if you see them in the class or the playground. We've started a unit on Keeping Ourselves Safe with Room 2 so keep an eye open for notices or extra homework in the kids schoolbags. In maths we're doing a unit on position and so far we've looked at the 'language' we use to describe our position for example…beside, behind, in-between, left, right etc.
Remember its No Hat - No Play time so if children could leave their hats at school so that they won't miss out on playtime outside.
Final note: 62 days till Christmas!

Many thanks Lianne

Creepy Crawlies invade Room 1
Look at the visitors we had in our class on Friday…..very creepy! The children did some brainstorming about what they could see and then followed it up with some observational drawings.
